La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat

I’ve never tried the famous La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo moisturiser (shock horror!) so I headed into Boots to pick one up. No surprise, though: they were out of stock. So, instead, I decided to give the La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat a whirl and I’m so surprised that I haven’t seen this around!
The moisturiser promises to reduce the appearance of pores, hydrate the skin without being especially shiny and to be a good base for makeup. I can safely say that all of these promises are maintained and this is probably my favourite product in my skincare routine at the moment.
As you all know, I have pretty combination skin at the moment (oily in the summer) so shine is something that terrifies me. Even so, this moisturiser manages to keep the oily patches as they would normally be (it’s such a nightmare when a moisturiser helps your dry patches but makes your oily patches even oilier than before). It’s also helped to make my skin feel a bit more normal (!) with minimal oil which is fantastic.
On top of that, it’s also helped to keep acne and spots quiet which is fantastic in my eyes. I’ve suffered with horrible acne for years as I know I’ve said on many occasions but my current skincare routine is really helping to keep all of that at bay, and this moisturiser is something to thank for that (I’ll be uploading a skincare routine YouTube video very soon so keep your eyes peeled!)
It also says that it’s a good base for makeup which I can agree with to an extent; the moisturiser helps to keep skin smooth so applying makeup is very easy. Plus, it does help to keep your makeup on for a while longer than it would without the moisturiser. However, if you are looking for something that you can slap on like a primer and get right on with your makeup, then this is not for you. Actually, I think it’s very unlikely that you’ll ever find a moisturiser that does that. You do have to wait for a few minutes for it to sink in before you can start applying your makeup without it looking like you’ve just put makeup onto moisturiser that hasn’t set in. The way I like to do it is to apply eye cream, serum then Effaclar Mat and brush my teeth whilst I wait for it to set in. Works like a dream.
