The Baby Lips Effect

Everybody at my schools knows about Shaunyland so one of the nicest things to happen to me at school is when someone comes up to me and tells me they bought something because of my review and loved it, or that they love watching my videos or something. There is one thing, though, that I get picked up on a lot after the post featuring my infamously negative review became rather popular. This said “thing” is my opinion on the Maybelline Baby Lips.
The review that I’m talking about is the post I called The Worst Beauty Buys of 2013 with one of the headlining mini-reviews being a negative one of the Baby Lips franchise. People adore these small bullets of meh-ness and my review sent some people into a confused state. I had people asking me “why do you hate them so much!?” and “well I think you’ll find they make my lips feel amazing!” so I think it’s about time that I cleared my opinion up once and for all.
I do not dislike these products. As a matter of fact, I think they’re rather cute; a basic idea but the marketing of it is cute and I definitely buy into it. I do, however, feel that the actual properties of the product as a lip balm lack and that they are pretty much a low pigmented lipstick with minimal skincare effects. I also found the colour payoff to be kind of lacklustre and that they left my lips looking a strange colour. The ones I show about are Cherry Me and Peach Kiss and they both leave my lips looking like the colours that want to be, but just a little bit tackier. For that reason, I decided they were overhyped and were one of the Worst Beauty Buys from 2013.
I know it’s a short post and some will think it’s a cop-out, but I think it’s about time I cleared that up for everyone so that we can all live in Baby Lips harmony. Let’s just hope they don’t try and turn this let down product into a new range of base products as well! Oh wait…
