Feeling Good: Looking Back at June 2016

I’ve been working on a lot of exciting and big new projects recently and because my days aren’t getting any longer, it means I’ve been eating into blogging time a lot. A lot of hard work though means that a lot of down time is needed with great friends and family, and where do I turn when I’m having this kind of fun? Instagram of course – one of the best places on the internet!

I hand-on-heart think Instagram is one of the best social media apps to have been given to us in recent years and I enjoy nothing more than sharing the fun that I am having through the app in a way that I don’t really get to do on Twitter, which is why it is so fitting to use as the basis for a little June life update.
As you can see in the picture above, my friend Maria and I – along with our friends Kyle, Sehar and Anna – took a trip into the City yesterday to browse the shops and to see our friend Chaya and company in Bassett at the National Theatre’s Connections festival. Not only was the evening a fantastic time from a friend’s viewpoint (because Chaya was – of course – absolutely amazing), but it was a truly fantastic performance overall from my theatre blogger side of things. I’m forever proud of the fact that I am constantly surrounded by such fantastic young actors, musicians, artists and writers all of the time and last night was definitely a celebration like that; it really is something special when you feel a real “proud mother” feeling for one of your bestest friends and it’s a feeling that I can’t wait to feel again in the near future.
Myself (obviously) with my friends Gabby, Jess and Meghan
Last week also saw our school take home the trophy at the Rock Challenge Southern Premier Final and the energy in school has been fantastic ever since. If you don’t know what Rock Challenge is, it’s a dance competition that different schools and colleges around the country compete in to raise awareness that you can find natural highs in things like performing as opposed to finding your highs in drink and drugs. I was lucky enough this year to be given the job of introducing our school’s performance – which also meant I got to be up on stage accepting the award – as well as lending my hand to the makeup and costume side of things like I have done before. The makeup and costume done in the picture above on my friends Gabby, Jess and Meghan isn’t my work though – it’s the makeup artistry of my very talented friend Emilia and the design and costume work from my other very talented friend Alice. I did spray their hair green though and help with greening up their hands and feet and to be honest, that’s obvs the best part of their costumes.
The Three Musketeers!
June also saw my aunt – one of my bestest friends in the whole world – coming home for a fortnight long visit from Sydney, Australia. Whenever she is home, the three of us – including the best woman on the face of the Earth, my Grandma – team up to become The Three Musketeers! As you can see above, we thought we’d take this to a fashion level of seriousness this time with matching capes that we wore to a wonderful family lunch. We also shared many fun memories at art galleries and insightful late night talks throughout the entire trip and it’s something I’m already excited about happening again in the not too distant future. There’s something so special about when the three of us are together (and for those who might be interested: it was these two women who took me to see my first West End show almost nine years ago!)
My sister Ellie-Mai does just as I tell her to: “pose with the apple”.
While June 2016 might have been one of the worst months when it comes to politics and tragedy around the world in as long as I can remember, I’ve certainly managed to keep my spirits lifted in many other ways throughout the course of the month. With all of these exciting projects coming up, I can’t wait for one of them to launch next month and to get some time back for blogging and keeping updated on the world. Thanks for an awesome time in June – roll on the Summer!
